Re: “Backyard of Boats

I was born in Eureka in 1952 & lived there for several years before we moved to Chico, CA.. Truly enjoyed reading this article. I have many old pictures of the marina, as well as fond memories of trips to Lazio's fish market with my mom.

Re: “Backyard of Boats

I was stationed at the Coast Guard's lifeboat station in 1957. Humboldt Bay was a pretty busy port back then. There was ocean going shipping back then, and a war surplus cargo ship converted to a lumber schooner named the C-Trader, and the Hunter and Folland whalers. I enjoyed your article, thanks.

Re: “Iron in the Blood

Yes, I love that moment of opening the doors of the shop - all at rest - then with the fire lit, the iron hot, all is transformed. Wonderous!
